From an Intensive Care Charge Nurse, regarding a Harry Potter screening.
Hi Christine
First, thanks for a fantastic afternoon.
The kids really were glowing after the movie, which was lovely to see. There was a wide range of sick children there. The children that stuck in my mind were firstly, the young lad who'd had major heart surgery (a hole in his heart repaired) just ten days previously - there's no way he'd have been fit enough to see the movie anywhere else but MediCinema!
Secondly, there were a large number of children suffering from various stages of chronic renal (kidney) failure from conditions such as vasculitus and infections. Many of these children are inpatients undergoing permanent Kidney Dialysis whilst being worked up for Transplants - there was also one young girl who recently had a Kidney Transplant.
Adults wise, there were two of my ex-Intensive Care patients, both of whom had chronic respiratory illnesses and haematological diseases. Both of them were on life-support for a number of weeks and it was the first time I'd seen them since. They loved the film & fortunately didn't remember much of their time on the Intensive Care Unit!
Anyhow that's all for now, keep up the fantastic work and give me a shout if you need me.
Cheerio
Eamonn
