MEDICINEMA AT THE SOUTH GWENT CHILDREN'S CENTRE NEWPORT

There are over 1200 children with a disability living in Newport, South Torfaen and South Monmouthshire.

The South Gwent Children’s Foundation is currently raising funds for the fitting out of the new children’s centre which will provide a comprehensive range of facilities for children with disabilities and their families, in order to ensure that all the agencies providing care, treatment, support and advice can work together under one roof. MediCinema will be an integral part of the centre.

It isn’t always easy for children with disabilities to go to the Cinema, and it is even more difficult for disabled children and their families to have a cinema experience as a whole family.  That is why MediCinema is so important to the children and families who will use the new Children’s Centre - soon they will be able to do what so many of us take for granted - be carried away by the magic of Cinema.

The funding for the completion of the construction and internal fitting out works has now been negotiated between the local NHS Trust and the Welsh Assembly. We will be fundraising for the installation of the MediCinema shortly with the aim of opening in 2010.

Message of support from Honor Blackman:

"As patron of MediCinema I am thrilled that a branch of this charity will be in Newport.  Cinema is unique in that it allows us to escape from reality, if only for a few hours, and I know that local disabled children and their families will benefit enormously from being able to experience the big screen at their very own centre. As having a MediCinema will I’m sure, add a little extra magic to a wonderful project."
