Close to 22,000 patients and loved ones experience MediCinema in 2025

07th Jan 2026

2025 has proven to be an exceptional year for MediCinema with 21,929 patients, their loved ones and NHS staff experiencing our in-hospital cinemas – nearly 5,000 more than the previous year.

Across 1617 film screenings, 751 patients attended in their hospital bed whilst others were accommodated in wheelchairs alongside any necessary medical equipment.

Behind the scenes, our incredible team and volunteers made it all possible. Our dedicated MediCinema nurses provided clinical support across 2367 shifts giving patients and their families the confidence to leave the ward. Meanwhile our volunteers helped to create a warm and welcoming environment for visitors over the past year gifting an estimated 13,456 hours of their time.

There was also the enormous honour of being the recipient of 1 BAFTA for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema at the BAFTA Film Awards 2025, a moment in our history we will never forget.

Moments of Connection Through Cinema

2025 was an outstanding year for screenings taking place outside of our regular weekly programme creating unforgettable moments for patients and their families.

5895 attended our Tailored Screenings designed for specific in and out-patient clinical groups including breast cancer and advanced prostate cancer support groups, young peoples’ mental health and sickle cell support groups among many others.

840 individuals were welcomed to Personal Screenings for patients who are unable to attend our regular screenings due to complex medical needs or as part of their palliative care journey. These special screenings provide the opportunity for patients and their families to spend precious time together and create invaluable positive memories with loved ones.

More Than Just Movies

In addition to our regular screenings last year was packed full of movie fun and exclusive experiences designed to enrich the lives of patients both inside and outside of our MediCinemas, long after the credits roll.

From arts & crafts and activity packs to character meet and greets and actor Q&As as well as UK premieres and preview screenings, around 7,000 additional experiences were delivered at our MediCinemas, on the wards and across our network of partner hospitals including:

  • 3200 MediCinema Film Club Books distributed to patients

2025 was an exceptional year for MediCinema. Through our regular in-patient screenings, Tailored and Personal Screening programmes, and via our wonderful Beyond the Big Screen events we have reached an extraordinary number of patients, enabled by the direct support of our partner hospital charities, and our wonderful volunteers.  We are extremely excited to be launching two new MediCinemas at the beginning of this year in Manchester and Birmingham, both new NHS regions for us. This means that we can significantly expand our impact, bringing the benefit of MediCinema to thousands more often at challenging times in their lives.
