Goals for Good: Charity Football Match Kicks Off in Aid of MediCinema

09th Dec 2025

Football fans will rally for more than just victory later this month with MediCinema being championed at the upcoming charity spotlight match between Oldham Athletic FC and Walsall FC.

The charity spotlight matches, organised by Oldham Athletic Community Trust, help to raise awareness for local charities and causes close to the club’s heart.

The next match, in aid of MediCinema, is due to take place on Wednesday 10th December with kick off at 7.45pm at the Latics’ home ground, Boundary Park.

Local support for local MediCinemas

The charity spotlight match couldn’t have come at a better time, with building work for two new MediCinemas recently kicking off in hospitals local to both teams in Manchester and Birmingham.

These newest additions to the MediCinema family, due to be completed early 2026, will mean that thousands more NHS patients will experience the transformative power of cinema when they need it most.

Each MediCinema is specially designed to accommodate hospital beds, wheelchairs and medical equipment with every screening supported by nurses.  We screen the latest movie releases at no cost to the NHS or patients.

Beyond the beautiful game

Support for MediCinema comes directly from Club CEO, Darren Royle, who is also undertaking a series of personal challenges to raise funds and awareness for our charity – including the London Marathon 2026.

Darren’s connection to MediCinema comes through his close friend, James Reade, avid Oldham supporter and father to Rosalie who, during a stay in hospital following surgery, experienced the impact of MediCinema first-hand.

Being in hospital can be really hard. I miss being at home, going to school, seeing my friends – doing the normal things… MediCinema helps you feel happier, and I’ve heard that being happy can help you recover faster, so it might even help you recover better too.

James completed the London Marathon in aid of MediCinema in 2025 and will be cheering Darren on at his upcoming challenge events.
