MediCinema at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital turns 10

22nd Oct 2025

Wednesday 22nd October marks 10 years since the opening of CW+ MediCinema at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

The past decade has seen over 2000 screenings of the latest movie releases, plus a few classics, with just over 27,600 patients, family members and carers welcomed through our doors.

These numbers include regular screenings for in-patients, personal screenings for vulnerable patients or those receiving end of life care and our Tailored Screenings for specific clinical groups including children and adolescent mental health groups, a support group for patients living with HIV and the wonderful Chelsea Pensioners.

10 years of special moments

Over the past 10 years the CW+ MediCinema at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital has hosted numerous special events with character visits and special screenings including Anna, Elsa and Sven from Frozen, the Paw Patrol Pups, Chewbacca from Star Wars and most recently, Mummy Pig and Baby Evie from Peppa Pig.

We’ve also had some incredible celebrity visits across the years in support of the work we do including Celia Imrie (twice!), Lightyear’s Chris Evans, Lewis Hamilton, Sheila Hancock, Andy Nyman, Rick Riordan and author Adam Kay for a special book event.

This particular MediCinema, which is supported by CW+, the official charity of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, has also been part of some major campaigns for MediCinema, including the filming of our iconic cinema advert, All Forgotten featuring patient, Sienna and MediCinema ambassador, Simon Pegg.

This year marks a remarkable milestone, 10 years of MediCinema at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Over the past decade, MediCinema has brought the magic of film to patients, offering moments of joy, escape, and connection during some of their most challenging times. It has become a cherished part of the hospital experience, reminding us all of the healing power of storytelling and community.  MediCinema makes a profound difference to our patients. It offers a sense of normality, comfort, and emotional relief that clinical care alone cannot provide. Seeing patients smile, relax, and feel part of something special is a testament to the impact this initiative has had over the last 10 years.

Transforming the hospital experience

Rosalie and her family experienced first-hand the impact that a visit to the MediCinema at Chelsea and Westminster can have.  When Rosalie had to undergo surgery for a long-term condition, trips to the MediCinema helped to alleviate the psychological impact that being on a ward can have.

Knowing there was [a MediCinema] there helped me – it gave me days to look forward to, knowing I was going to watch a movie… it helps you forget about all the bad stuff for a while.
